Kicking off the Cloud track at WSO2Con, we will go through all things cloud at WSO2, including the company’s participation in Apache Stratos, our products for Private PaaS and private cloud in general, Managed Cloud, and Public shared cloud offerings: where we are today and where we are going.

This session will showcase how WSO2 tools help revolutionize application development with cloud and on-premise tooling with its vision to integrate APIs everywhere, app management, and cloud and PaaS-based enterprise application lifecycle management.

Apache Stratos is a highly-extensible Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) framework that helps run Apache Tomcat, PHP, and MySQL applications and can be extended to support many more environments on all major cloud infrastructures. For developers, Stratos provides a cloud-based environment for developing, testing, and running scalable applications. IT providers benefit from high utilization rates, automated resource management, and platform-wide insights, including monitoring and billing.
This session will focus on the roadmap for Apache Stratos and how it can become a disruptive force in the current PaaS market.

Layers of API facade pattern can be grouped into two distinct, but closely related aspects – API-contract and API-implementation. The middleware stack that supports both of these aspects enables a number of competitive advantages over solutions that don’t support all the layers of API facade pattern.

This session will explore various API implementation options available within the WSO2 stack and how each of them can be used together with WSO2 API Manager to build complete API solutions effectively. The session will illustrate example use cases from WSO2 AS, WSO2 ESB, WSO2 BPS, and Jaggery as well as discuss the API-Everywhere feature that’s natively supported by WSO2 products.

Enterprises develop many different applications based on their business requirements. These applications can be composite applications that consist of various parts, such as services, web applications, workflows or data visualization, among others. WSO2 middleware helps developers to write such composite applications by providing various middleware servers, such as ESB, application server, data services server, business process server, etc. WSO2 Developer Studio is an IDE that can be used to develop applications for the WSO2 middleware platform.

This session will provide an introduction to WSO2 Developer Studio and explain how you can use various capabilities available in the developer studio to develop composite enterprise applications. It will also discuss how you can debug those applications and deploy them on the WSO2 middleware platform.

WSO2 Private PaaS extends the functionality of implementing agile and heterogeneous environments to deploy applications that run efficiently and scale elastically in the cloud. This can be achieved both through the new plug-in simplicity of adding third-party cartridges, and expanded support for IaaS platforms.

At the core of WSO2 Private PaaS 4.0.0 lies Apache Stratos 4.0.0 providing cloud-native capabilities, such as multi-tenancy, elastic scaling, self-service provisioning, metering, billing, and resource pooling, among several other functionalities. More significantly, it also adds functionality to host pre-integrated, fully multi-tenant WSO2 Carbon middleware products as cartridges that deliver a range of cloud PaaS services. All WSO2 product cartridges will be configured using Puppet, an automation software, which will help to configure cartridges easily with the use of templates. Similarly, any runtime can be easily plugged in via the cartridge architecture as a service.

Data is at the heart of any business. Before exposing this valuable asset as APIs, there needs to be an efficient approach to bring this data to the API layer. One of the most convenient ways to do this is to use data services. By using data services, you can model a virtualized view of the data to be consumed in an intuitive manner. Moreover, coupled with a zero-code declarative programming model, the time taken to expose a data set as a data service, and ultimately as an API, is super-fast.

Being integrated, accessible, collaborative, and adaptive are the four main pillars in building a connected business. This calls for the ability to leverage existing services, create new services, expose these as APIs and integrate all of these exposure points in a collaborative and intuitive manner. WSO2 Cloud provides the capability of being able to create all the necessary building blocks for a connected business with its various flavors of cloud services. At a lower level, the ease of creating such connected business artifacts would definitely be a contributing factor towards building a successful connected environment. This has also been achieved in WSO2 Cloud through collaboration with Codenvy, which supports a rich development environment that can be easily accessible via a browser. WSO2 App Factory is a multi-tenant, elastic, and self-service enterprise platform that supports applications from cradle to grave. App Factory enables multiple project teams to collaboratively create, run, and manage enterprise applications, while aiming to reduce development time and cost, increasing collaboration and visibility. Furthermore, it aims to revolutionize the app development process by taking it one step further by introducing streamlined application lifecycle management. App Factory is the backbone of WSO2 Cloud and a private deployment of App Factory can greatly improve innovation around your PaaS.

Two years ago AlmavivA designed and implemented a Master Data Management solution for the Italian Ministry of Finance. It’s called “Anagrafica Unica” which translates to “Central Registry” in English. The system serves applications regarding salaries and personal data as a self-service service for the Italian public sector employees and the Ministry’s operators. The system is also used as a hub to other Italian public administrations. It’s used to share personal data and data regarding salaries with them and to integrate their data into the system (i.e. fiscal or health care data). The front-end is created with Liferay Portal and it has 2 million registered users. The back-end is a custom distributed MDM solution I designed with WSO2 products (ESB+DSS+IS+MB+BAM+GREG) and with Oracle as persistence layer. It currently manages 2.6 million employees. The next goal is to reach all the Italian public employees by adding the remaining people from the Public Education Sector (about 900,000 employees).

APIs are no longer simple interaction interfaces. An extensible API management platform opens ventures for growth and scalability. Enterprises today are forced to open up their business processes and services to an increasing number of partners and other connected devices. APIs are the way forward in moving towards this goal. As enterprises extend their reach to newer partners and devices, there will also be a need to extend and customize API platforms and services.

This session will explain how an extensible API management platform can benefit an organization in offering business APIs to service consumers. It will focus on

The main goal of WSO2 Application Server is to enable a first-class web application hosting experience for Java and Javascript developers. Without reinventing the wheel, WSO2 Application Server is built on top of Apache Tomcat, and provides a number of added features that are not available with Tomcat.

This session will discuss some of the significant added features in detail such as multi tenancy, cloud native, application lazy loading, deployment synchronization, and Hazelcast-based cluster management and custom class loader runtimes. It will focus on some of the future directions of WSO2 Application Server, such as JavaEE Web Profile support. The talk will also explain how WSO2 Application Server fits with other WSO2 offerings to build complete agile connected business solutions.

This session will explain how you can make use of WSO2 Cloud to host your enterprise solutions. It will focus on the example of WSO2Con Mobile App, which is hosted on WSO2 Cloud by leveraging the features of its App Cloud and API Cloud. The session will also cover the available features of WSO2 Cloud, which you can provision under one hood and how those features can be used by your enterprise to move your enterprise solutions to the cloud.

Exchanging information internally and externally in an efficient and reliable manner is the key factor for improving performance of modern business and enables companies, big and small, to meet new challenges and address fresh business opportunities. Business messages are used to exchange information between systems. Synchronous and asynchronous are the two main messaging models and there are various methods of exchanging messages. Point-to-point messaging or pub/sub messaging are patterns that are used for any kind of information exchange. Message broker is the middle party that routes all of these messages between various parties with all messaging patterns. Scalability and reliability are key features expected by any kind of message broker and WSO2 provides all these features with WSO2 Message Broker. This session will explain the following aspects in terms of WSO2 Message Broker:

Multi-tenant SaaS applications allow organizations to maximize resource utilization while providing a way to deliver business capabilities at a much faster rate. Yet, SaaS application developers face many challenges in building these applications, including the knowledge of multi-tenancy, contextual personalization, resource optimization, elastic scaling, etc. Therefore, building a SaaS application using traditional application servers and integration middleware is not an easy task.

In this session, we’ll discuss the principles of continuous development and how SAAS developer environments are making enterprise development more agile.

Reducing cross boundary interaction between enterprises is a key objective of converting a business to a connected business. The realization of an integrated business relies on the hybrid integration capabilities, which is the federation of the on-premise and cloud-based integration capabilities. With the evolution of SOA, API proliferation, and the increasing adoption of iPaaS, modern enterprises require to build an integration ecosystem rather than a bunch of integration silos.

This session will focus on various solution architecture patterns for building an integration ecosystem with the WSO2 middleware platform.

The Federated Ecosystem is one of main CSI projects. Its aim is to redesign regional public body information systems outsourced to CSI-Piemonte with a federated architecture model so that it simplifies and assures interoperability, governance and flexibility. Every single information system will be deployed in the CSI private cloud infrastructure. CSI Ecosystem uses WSO2 technology (mainly API Manager and BAM) to rule interoperability, manage service levels and promote service reusability with a marketplace of API, lifecycle management with self-service subscription (based on oAuth2 standards) and monitoring of API usage and performance.Message mediation and service integration at single information system levels will be addressed with ESB/Registry technologies. The session will cover the roadmap for real-time events processing and big data analytics projects in CSI-Piemonte using WSO2 CEP and other open source machine learning engines.

JavaScript is the closest language of a web developer. When JavaScript was designed, it copied many names and naming conventions from Java. But, what about the rest of Java?

Jaggery takes the story a few steps forward by giving the power of Java to web developers, with the help of Mozilla Rhino and Nashorn. It helps you to rapidly develop web applications using JavaScript, by using all your favorite Java libraries, but without worrying about passing callbacks here and there. In other words, Jaggery allows you to rest, by taking the rest up to it. In this session, you will discover what Jaggery is, its use, and how it can help to boost your web app development.

In the past few years, we have been aware of wealth of data around us. This data ranges from transaction logs, online interactions (like Facebook and Twitter) to data collected from pervasive sensors. If we could make sense of that data in a timely manner, it would provide a decisive competitive advantage. This talk will start with an overview of big data and state-of-the-art technologies and go on to discuss WSO2’s vision for big data, our current offerings, and what’s in store. Among some of the themes that will be discussed are batch processing, real-time processing, combining batch data with real time data, IoT and big data, as well as how the rest of the WSO2 platform works with big data technologies.

The flooding of smartphones and other mobile devices has generated equal user demand in the market. Device user population has seen exponential growth with devices being used for accessing the Internet, downloading apps, sharing information, and for social networking. The penetration of these devices has affected businesses too. Developing device apps are the current mantra for many businesses today. Every enterprise needs to adopt a mobile strategy before enabling mobility.
